My LG P698 android phone is not connected to the internet, also I have to pass through the proxy setting so I can browse the internet. How can I do achieve this and enabled WhatApp on it?

I only bought my phone yesterday, so I am still getting used to it. Is it possible to increase the size of the incoming text, I find it too small to read without glasses on? All of the other text is a readable size.
